Project started October 2023,

In this episode we weld the neck to the frame

After testfitting the neck on the frame one last time we drilled some big holes in the neck for plugwelds (using TIG) and thoroughly cleaned the insides of the sleeves and the parts of the frame that would slide in there. Just like on the old original frames we are using silver brazing between frame and neck.

Brazing the top tube into the neck was relatively easy as gravity helped the silver fill the gap. After cleaning we think it looks really nice! To install the neck and toptube on to the frame which is fixed in the jig was a bit different, we pre-applied silver on the tops of the front downtubes and the inside of the sleeves to make sure all the gaps would be filled up. Before the final install of the neck we chamfered the edge of the top part of the seatpost that we had replaced for good weld penetration. We also added some holes for plugwelds.

Next we will finish welding the new part of the frame to the old part and clean all the welds.
