Project started October 2023,

Making a rear hub

For the rear wheel we are using a 15" solid wheel which will be covered with sheetmetal wheelcaps that we will also be building from scratch. For now we are starting with a hydraulic drumbrake (of the style used from 1963 to 1966) and building the left half of the hub connecting the brakedrum to the wheel. The wheel itself will need some fixing up also. We started with a big lump of C45 steel and started machining that according to my drawings on a big old Ursus lathe.

After all the lathwork was ready we moved to the vertical milling machine, a Deckel FP4M in this case that Johan Heemskerk let us use. The hub needed 20 holes in total, 5 of them stepped and 10 of them threaded. The heavier and sturdier the milling machine, the better the accuracy is.

Left side is ready, next time we do the right side and fix up the welds and balance on that old wheel.
