Project started October 2023,

Last week, off camera, Aad tried the first wheelcover and it went reasonably well except the center cut a hole in the cover before it was done. To prevent this happening again we made a Delrin support with a diameter of 14 centimeters (because we happened to find a piece that size..), and machined the outside shape of the cover in it, so the cover will be sandwiched between the Delrin and the steel while metalforming the outside part of the shape.

The other new thing was that we made a simple wooden tool to bend a lip on the outside of the plate, this is supposed to prevent wrinkling of the metal. This time the metalforming went very well, but we decided we wanted the radii a bit tighter so we made a second nylon wheel with a smaller radius. This also worked as it was supposed to, so then it was just a matter of cutting the disc to size and then sanding it with increasingly finer sandpaper and then finally with Scothbrite.

Now that we have figured it out we will make 3 more, so we will have 2 for Aad's Cadbike 58 Knucklehead and 2 for my own Cadbike 1 Shovelhead. To be continued!
