Project started October 2023,

We will be basing the fueltank of this bike on an old Sportster tank which will be "slightly" modified ofcourse. We started by sanding off the weld so bottom and tunnel could be removed, we will not be using this as the tank will be Frisco mounted with tapered sides. In my opinion the ugliest thing about Sportster tanks is the horrible flat area around the gascap (which will be relocated by the way) so we drilled out the old gascap, welded a plate where it used to beand planished the welds. Then reshaped the top of the tank so the flat spot is gone.

The reshaping is a matter of hitting it with a wooden hammer on a sandbag to get the material stretched a bit, then smoothing with the planishing hammer. Here the shape is roughly as we want it, next is to fill up the opening from the old high tunnel on the front of the tank, this is a pretty simple operation as the material is only curved in one direction in this area

Next week we will remove all the paint and reshape the rear of the tank so the top curve continues all the way to the back, then a bit of metal finishing and maybe start on the tapered sides
