One of the rocker washers was also missing so I made one from stainless. With the worn out parts fixed now I could start with mounting the drumbrake hub.

With "normal" forks when you tighten the front axle the brakeplate (shown in orange) is fixed in place, but in a Springer it needs to be able to rotate, the brakeplate is fixed to the rear leg of the springer to avoid unwanted reaction forces when braking. Also the front axle was too short, so I needed a new axle, axle nuts, spacers and a bronze bushing in the brakeplate. And a pivoting rod connecting brakeplate to rear leg.

I machined a new front axle from a very strong bit of steel as it is only 15 mm, also machined the axle holes in the rockers and made some spacers and stainless steel axle nuts. One of the nuts will be welded to the axle. The brake reaction rod I made from stainless steel with 2 balljoints. The length is the same as the distance from front axle to rear leg pivot.
