For the Cadbike 33 project, my BMW Bobber, I needed to shorten my new Springer exactly 47 millimeters ( 1.85") to get the trail I wanted. We started with the front leg; after removing the 47 mm from the bottom of each side, Aad fabricated some solid plugs that fit inside the legs.

For extra strength and to avoid warping , Aad drilled 2 holes through each section of the forks into the solid plugs and TIG-welded these holes full. We put a threaded rod and 4 nuts through the axle holes to keep the ends of the forks paralell before doing the final welds. After filing and sanding the modification is finished. Next week the rear legs!
