The back and the top of the oiltank were templated, cut out
and welded in. It still needs mounting points, oilline connections
and a filler opening. And pressure testing ofcourse. More
about all that later..
Because the bike has an electric starter
it needs a fairly big battery. After a lot of headscratching
we removed a piece of frametube under the seat so the battery
could be mounted and removed.
This piece had to be removeable so we made some threaded plugs
and Aad welded these in the piece of frametube that we had removed.
On the frame itself we added some collars for the bolts to push
against and using a steel bar with a piece of machined aluminium
as a guide the mating surfaces were ground flat.
Now that the tube is bolted back in place
the modification is almost invisible, but it will make life
a lot easier not having to remove the oiltank to get the battery
out.
Next time I will show the oiltank mounts,
filler opening and oilcap we made. These pics are from a few
weeks ago, we are actually quite a bit further along with the
bike as I write this.
