Brass Risers Part 3
mounting brass risers on a springer

Ofcourse I could not resist using a pair of my new brass risers on the springer of my BMW Bobber, Cadbike 33. The dimensions in the sketch above are based on measurements taken from a classic style springer from 45 parts depot, other type springers may have different dimensions. We made some sleeves to fit around 2 grade 8 bolts, choosing the length of the sleeves so that there would be exactly the right number of threads sticking through the risers to fasten the brass nuts. The sleeves were only welded at the bottom, because I did not want the heat from welding to create a weak spot in the bolt where it sticks out of the rear leg of the springer.

The sleeved bolts were tapped into the tops of the rear legs, they are a light press fit. Check the inside dimensions of your own fork before making the sleeves by the way, it is very possible that the dimensions are different. We drilled two holes, 180 degrees apart, through each leg of the springer into the sleeves and MIG welded them full. Mission accomplished!
